Homebrewing & Beer
Building a Community for Brewers and Friends
In 2015, I founded the Brewminaries Homebrew Club in Brooklyn, New York with the help of other passionate homebrewers. We are now the largest homebrewing club in New York, with over 150 members. I created the Brewminaries to make scientific experimentation available to homebrewers through shared knowledge and experiences. Not only are we brewing better beer, we are a strong and diverse community of friends and fermentation enthusiasts!
Here are some of the ways I helped build the Brewminaries.
I developed an organizational structure for the Brewminaries that ensures long-term success. Accountability, transparency, and providing enriching experiences to the membership is the cornerstone of club governance. My work included creating administrative procedures for planning annual activities, participatory budget development, successful fundraising, and club communications.
Building a new organization requires executive competence and inspiring leadership. As President from 2015 - 2017, I helped create a club culture that is inclusive and encouraging, embodying the fun and curious nature of our membership. I provided direction in consultation with other governing officers as we navigated new opportunities and challenges.
Public Speaking and Event Planning
I had the privilege of representing the Brewminaries and wider homebrewing community on numerous panel discussions and craft beer events throughout Brooklyn. I orchestrated six large public events, raising thousands of dollars to help sustain our club. I proudly wrote and delivered the annual "State of the Brewnion" address to large crowds, and chaired monthly meetings with our membership.
